Upon Our Axis
05:25
|
|||
Strangers to each other
Like ships passing in the night
On we march towards fulfilment of our dreams
Visions of riches and fame and all material things
Spared rarely a thought for how we may get there
How much damage we cause along the road we take
Who is hurt or harmed as we plunder our own world…
Who carries the weight of all the hearts and backs we break?
|
||||

Our Earth
She turns
She spins and churns
Fractured
Fragile
Perfect clockwork
The Earth we all take for granted
Just how would you react if all you loved was gone?
History tells us all stories of great wars
Empires built upon the ashes of the slain
Are we so much different in the modern age?
Corruption, ignorance and hatred all still reign
Consequence ignored as we enslave sentient beings
Rape the precious lands and pollute the air and seas
Suddenly the atomic clocks drop right out of sync
For reasons no one can begin to explain
Earth’s rotation slightly slows upon her axis
Our necks arched upwards as planes fall from the sky
Hope wains within us
Terror builds inside us
Our alleged civilised society begins to crumble
Until it only exists as memories
Did we ever truly believe this world was ours to take?
Our ownership is just a delusion
Hear the thunders from the deep
Earth
Old Earth
She rumbles and awakes
Our Earth
She turns
She tears and burns
All part of her dance with the stars
Our hopes and dreams
Our faith and prayers
Still will not save us from our fate
A bleak new dawn
Awaits us all

Swallowed by the Ocean
14:13
|
|||
Shimmering lights dancing
Flickering at the sky
Foam tipped peaks refract rays
Cast from above and warm to the touch
The mistress of the deep;
Watch how she turns beneath black clouds
Feel your gut tied in knots
Fill your lungs up to the top
Drowned by fear as the waves approach
A thundering roar from an ancient throat
Huge seas move and drain to the poles
Breathless as the atmosphere follows
As the air thins in the tropics people flee from hell
Countless millions now refugees as polar oceans swell
Northern cities brace themselves for the unrivalled power
Of three hundred million cubic miles of moving ocean
Eyes open wide as the concrete crumbles
Clasp your ears as the glass panes implode
Waves descend with force of a thousand atomic bombs
As the power of the Ocean tears us all apart
I feel your warmth slip through my grasp one last time
Your silhouette slides into black emptiness
Plumes of ash billow from volcanos
Casting darkness across the surface below
Lava spews from fissures torn across dry land
As cities sink deeper beneath the waves
Just like forest fires laying waste to lush green canopies
Bringing skyscrapers down like giants forced onto their knees
The violent storms rage on
Flooding landlocked plains
As new oceans are born
Ash clouds descend like rain
Drying sea beds blackened
As lifeless deserts form
For those few lucky enough to survive the waves
A new plague threatens to consume
As the earths rotational mass slows the magnetosphere weakens
Leaving us exposed to endless waves of solar radiation
This radiation increases as the earth drops her shields
In yet another cruel blow from Mother Nature’s hand
For she needs no swords nor bombs
To crush our bodies whole
Her wrath compels
To drown our souls and forever silence our songs

On Earth
Our old Earth
We are dispensable
She does not hear our cries
As great chasms open up right beneath our feet and then swallow us whole
Earth’s crust splits and cracks
As tectonic plates collide
Blind panic spreads like pestilence across the globe
Crowds spill into the streets
Most flee their homes
Leaving everything behind
Blindly they drive in vain hope
That they will find
Somewhere calm and safe
Far away from the end of days
Somewhere they can rebuild
A place where hope remains
Countless migrating birds on the long voyage home to breed
Succumb to exhaustion and plummet toward the sea
Hordes of migrating beasts in search of pastures to feed
Crash into the dirt
Withered
Weakened
Released
They will never reach the places they seek
Hibernating animals stand the best chance of life
If their burrows are not flooded or airless chambers
Violent storms subside as the Earths spin slows down
Without motion the Coriolis Effect stops worldwide
Behold the chaos here
This changes everything
Time for us to take that final walk into the goodnight
Computer networks fail all around the globe
Total collapse as our governments and civilisations implode
Behold the chaos here
God help us
Days seem to last forever as you stagger through the desolate city
Hallucinations trick your tired eyes
The endless days leave you sleep deprived
Delirium will not release its grasp
Still rest will not come even with the night
|
||||

Now the chaos ends
The Earth is calm again
Oceans are peaceful now
And the skies are windless
Two vast oceans reach from the poles to the shore
A new continent now wraps around the Earth
The centre ground is lethally airless
Dividing the North and the South
Those in landlocked cities
Begin to run out of food to eat
As there are no waters to fish nor harvests to reap
The storms are predictable
The rains last for weeks on end
For those lucky enough to be
In a place where rains will come
Silence is deafening
The calm is palpable
The Earth is desolate
Uninhabitable for man
The relentless hunger leaves us weak and thin
Endless thirst leaves our throats cracked and bleeding
Disease depletes our dwindling numbers
As we try to survive among the ruins
The Earth has one weather system controlled by the sun
The epicentre of its focus so hot the surface sets on fire
Humanity strains to endure
Upon strips of coastal sand
Clinging by a thread
This is what we are reduced to now
Earth stands still

Six Months 'til Sunset
05:02
|
|||
Cloudless blue skies as far as the eye can see
Bathing the land in a jaw dropping beauty
This paradise as it seems just hides
A curse that will not lift until the darkness comes
Fall down onto your knees
Overcome by the heat that cascades down from the heavens like flames
Striking the dry dead earth
Praying for something to sprout from the desert floor
And rain to start falling
This is the end of the world as we know and love her
A land of sand and bones
The wrath of the sun god butchered our crops and herds
Leaving us nothing
Barren and brittle husks litter the landscape
As we do not have the strength left to dig them graves
Torn between gut instinct and the desire to end it all
Take your place in oblivion
There is no respite from the pain
As dusk looms
Rejoice not for the winter
For she shall be just as cruel a mistress
Cold and dark for what may seem eternity
One last test
One last failure
Before we fall
|
||||
7. |
||||
Icy talons of frost tear like claws right through the dark
They scrape upon our throats
Reaching down into our lungs
Endless winter please release your grasp on frozen seas
Months of darkness fade away and beckon in the thaw we crave
Finally we see the blackness become fractured by the sun’s first rays
The long night has taken its toll upon those who will not wake
But the day goes on now that the endless cold has withdrawn
Ice melts and gives way to fertile soil
Our lifeline until…
The winter returns to cast her shadows across the sun drenched earth
But until that time we must reap our harvest from the lands and herds
A place where seeds are sown
A place where our crops can flourish and grow
A place where children play
Indeed this truly is a place where hope remains
If you were to stand at the water’s edge of this vast new ocean
You might perceive that you were in paradise
Until we begin to see
The leaves wilt and storm floods wash what is left back into the ocean
The hunger is unbearable
Parents’ watch children die
As thirst goes unquenched for days and weeks and months that pass by
As skin peels off in the endless heat
Could this be our last day upon this earth?
Our swansong…
As brothers and sisters
Our mothers and fathers continue to fall
Leaving us behind
One by one
We will fall

Final Day of Man
07:33
|
|||
Looking around at this world of ruin
Everything we built and all those we loved
Are left behind as the Earth goes on
The briefest flicker in history
To be forgotten by all but him;
The last man to face his final day…
He held her head as she drew her last breath and fell into the longest sleep
One that will last a thousand years and more
He stands alone at the edge of a calm and endless sea
All is not lost while he remains here to remember us
Another ceaseless sun scorched day
Iridescent horizon
But this is far from paradise
This is a grave he stands in alone
He drops down onto his knees
And screams up to the heavens
A blood curdling prayer caught
In his throat that will go forever unheard
Could this have been averted if we’d seen?
The harm we caused by pulling at the seams
Threads we felt not required to remain
In place
Intact
So arrogant were we
This end
This curse
A destiny deserved
This fate
This fall
A crushing justice served
This man
He holds the only records of
Our lives
Our loves
Our Empires and our wars
All in his memories as he draws his final breath
As the light dies in his eyes
We fade away
Into emptiness

Dawn
07:33
|
|||
Dawn breaks over the distant horizon
Earth basks in the rays dropping from above
Warmth cascades down valleys like waterfalls
This is the birth of a new day without us
This earth was our chariot
Her mountains, lakes and desert plains
The vast oceans and lush forests
And our grey urban wildernesses
Now only rubble remains
Lofty ruins of dead cities
As the sunlight tumbles over hills and shimmers on cresting waves
Swelling over barren desert dunes and setting prairies ablaze
Our Earth
Old Earth
Breathes with new lungs
Breathe in
Breathe out
Breathe in
Breathe out
